Pagasa: TD Crising trough to affect Bicol, eastern part of Visayas

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced on Wednesday that the trough, or the extension of the clouds, from Tropical Depression “Crising” will affect the Bicol region and the eastern portion of the Visayas.

“As of now, its effect is indirect because of the trough or the extension of the clouds, this is the current effect,” Pagasa weather specialist John Manalo said in Filipino during an 11 a.m. press briefing.

“The cloudiness will affect the Bicol region and the eastern part of Visayas,” Manalo added.

Manalo reported that Crising, which was last located 725 kilometers east of Virac in Catanduanes, is packing maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

He also said that Crising is presently moving westward at 35 kph. Pagasa’s 11 a.m. weather bulletin added that it will move generally west-northwestward to northwestward over the entire forecast period and it will be the closest to Northern Luzon by Friday evening.

The agency also said Crising is forecast to develop into a tropical storm category by Thursday and may reach severe tropical storm category by Friday afternoon or evening.

Meanwhile, Manalo said that southwest monsoon, or habagat, is bringing cloudy skies and rains to the following areas:

  • Zambales
  • Bataan
  • Metro Manila
  • Cavite
  • Batangas
  • Occidental Mindoro
  • Palawan
  • Western portion of Visayas
  • Western portion of Mindanao, particularly in Zamboanga Peninsula /das
