MANILA, Philippines — Two of the dams in Benguet province have opened their gates due to heavy rains brought by Severe Tropical Storm Bising.

In its Monday report, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said Ambuklao and Binga dams have opened their gates.

Ambuklao’s dam, whose water level is at 751.39 meters, opened one of its gates at 8:00 a.m. with a total discharge of 47.23 cubic meters per second (cms).

Binga Dam, on the other hand, had a water level of 573.45 meters. It opened two of its gates at 8:00 a.m. with a total discharge of 113.87 cms.

The overflow from Ambuklao may likely affect Ambuclao village in Bokod town, while Binga’s flow may have an impact on Dalupurip and Tinongdan villages in Itogon town.

Pagasa said the local disaster risk and management council in these areas is “advised to take necessary precautionary measures.”

As of Monday morning, Bising is now out of the Philippine area of responsibility.

However, the southwest monsoon will continue to bring rains in parts of Luzon on Tuesday, according to Pagasa.

On Monday, Pagasa recorded an average basin rainfall of 34 millimeters (mm) of rain for two dams, while its Tuesday forecast is pegged at 10-25 mm. /mr
