‘Jueteng probe:’ PNP vows cooperation

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Police said that it will cooperate with any investigation pertaining to the alleged involvement of some of its officials in the numbers racket, popularly called “jueteng”, its spokesman said Wednesday.

“If PNP personnel would be summoned, we will cooperate,” Senior Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. said, pertaining to the investigation launched following a circulated email from a certain Molly Acuña that claims of the involvement of some PNP officials in jueteng.

Although the PNP’s office of the Internal Affairs Service is now conducting its own probe, the first step of the investigation, Cerbo said, will focus on the veracity of the report.

“There are names mentioned but nobody knows them..and is he telling the truth? Those are the things that we have to verify,” he said.

But if Acuña would surface and ask for additional security, Cerbo said that the request will be granted. Jamie Marie Elona
