MANILA, Philippines — Severe Tropical Storm Bising (international name: Danas) intensified into a typhoon on Sunday morning while outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the state weather bureau reported.
According to the advisory of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), as of 8 a.m., Bising was last located 395 kilometers west-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, moving north-northeast at 10 kilometers per hour. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kph, with gusts of up to 150 kph.
Although the typhoon has no direct impact on the country, Pagasa earlier reported that clouds associated with Bising would bring rain over Batanes and the Babuyan Group of Islands.
