MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Department of Justice (DOJ) have completed a three-day training aimed at beefing up legal and prosecutorial preparedness in maritime law enforcement challenges.

The DOJ conducted the training for coast guard personnel in Tagaytay City, the PCG said on Saturday, and marks a milestone in ensuring that maritime law enforcement is aligned with legal standards.

PCG Deputy Commandant for Administration, Rear Adm. Hostillo Arturo Cornelio, emphasized the importance of legal literacy and prosecutorial coordination in the Coast Guard’s front-line operations. Deputy State Prosecutor Margaret Castillo-Padilla said the DOJ is committed to working closely with law enforcement agencies to maintain legal integrity from operations to prosecution.

Prosecutor General Benedicto Malcontento and PCG commandant Adm. Ronnie Gil Gavan signed a memorandum of understanding on Feb. 20 for the training of PCG investigators through the DOJ Special Projects Division and the Task Force on Environmental Crimes.­ /cb —PNA
