BACOLOD CITY — In a major step toward modernizing Bacolod’s water infrastructure, PrimeWater Infrastructure Corp. and the Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA) have activated the upgraded Matab-ang Water Treatment Plant (WTP) in Barangay Granada, delivering immediate relief to thousands of residents.

The facility, which is currently supplying an additional three million liters per day, is expected to double its capacity to six MLD before the end of the year. This enhancement is already improving service in areas that have long faced challenges with low pressure and unreliable supply, including Barangays 27 through 30, Villamonte, Estefania, and Mandalagan.

Approximately 5,000 households are now receiving better water pressure and improved quality. Once the plant hits its full six-MLD capacity, another 5,000 households are expected to benefit.

“Our commitment is not just to restore, but to strengthen service delivery across Bacolod. The Matab-ang WTP is a strong foundation, and we’re on track to increase its output to six MLD within the year to meet the city’s growing demand,” said PrimeWater Management.

Local officials have welcomed the development, which features advanced filtration technology to ensure that water safety is maintained even as volume increases. The project forms part of a broader long-term joint venture between PrimeWater and BACIWA, focused on upgrading treatment facilities, expanding distribution lines, and ensuring sustainable water sourcing.

Additional system enhancements are in the pipeline under the partners’ roadmap to reinforce infrastructure resilience and service reliability across the city. /das
