BUSTOS, BULACAN — Two workers were killed while three others were seriously injured after a portion of a building they were constructing collapsed on Friday, reports from the Bulacan Police Provincial Office (PPO) said.
Major Jaynalyn Udal, information officer of the Bulacan police, said on Saturday that one of the victims was recovered lifeless during police and rescue team’s search, rescue and retrieval operations. The body of another worker who was buried in the debris of the fallen structure has yet to be recovered.
The injured construction workers were evacuated and now undergoing treatment in a local hospital, Udal said.
The incident happened at about 4 p.m. on Friday at an under construction warehouse owned by JL Toys Inter Global Industrial Complex located in the boundary of Barangay Buisan of Bustos town and Barangay Bagbaguin of Pandi town, the Bulacan PPO said.
Based on the police report, the workers initially discovered a deformity in the slabs they were constructing and immediately installed braces to prevent it from collapsing. However, the braces later broke down, causing the structure to come down on the workers. /das
