MANILA, Philippines — Ten to 18 more cyclones are expected to enter or develop inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) before 2025 ends, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In a news forum in Quezon City on Saturday, Pagasa Deputy Administrator Mar Villafuerte said that for the whole year of 2025, the Philippines is expected to experience 11 to 19 tropical cyclones.

He added that for the month of July, one to two more tropical cyclones are forecast to enter or develop within PAR, besides Tropical Storm Bising, which the weather bureau is currently monitoring.

Tropical Storm Bising developed into a cyclone on Friday early morning and exited the PAR on the afternoon of the same day. It was last seen 460 kilometers west of Basco, Batanes, outside PAR.

Despite this, Villafuerte said Bising would intensify the southwest monsoon, or locally known as habagat, which is contributing to rain in the western section of the country, particularly in Northern Luzon and some areas in Visayas.

Bising is the second tropical cyclone in the country for 2025 — prior to Tropical Depression Auring, which developed into a cyclone in June. /das
