MANILA, Philippines — Police caught a 14-year-old boy for allegedly snatching a smartphone from a jeepney passenger in Quezon City.

The incident occurred Thursday afternoon along Aurora Boulevard and E. Rodriguez Avenue in Barangay Immaculate Concepcion, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said in a statement on Saturday.

Authorities chased after the teenager and managed to catch him.

“During the chase, the minor dropped the phone, which was later recovered by the owner, who chose not to press charges,” the QCPD explained.

“The child was properly turned over to Barangay Immaculate Concepcion and was later released to the custody of his mother,” it added.

The teenager was only identified by police as a resident of Barangay Doña Imelda.

The QCPD stressed that it was handling the case in accordance with Republic Act 9344, or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act. /jpv
