Davao City Councilor Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II presided over the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod on Tuesday.

Duterte, son of Rep. Paolo Duterte and grandson of former President Rodrigo Duterte, got the highest number of votes among the winning city councilors last May 12.

He took over the role of his uncle, Vice Mayor Sebastian Duterte, whom the Department of the Interior and Local Government ordered to assume as mayor.

The former president, who was elected mayor last May 12, has not yet taken his oath of office while in detention in The Hague, where he awaits the processes of the International Criminal Court in connection with the charge of crime against humanity of murder levelled against him.

On Tuesday, the Davao City council organized the leadership of the standing committees.

In his inaugural speech, Duterte called on the city councilors to “stand united in our commitment to progress, transparency, and the betterment of all Dabawenyos.”/coa
