MANILA, Philippines — Suspected ecstasy tablets with an estimated value of P855,100 were intercepted by authorities at a mail hub at the Manila Port Area, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said.
The illegal drugs were found in a package during an inspection at the Philippine Postal Corporation’s Surface Mail Exchange Department Thursday afternoon, PDEA said in a statement on Friday.
“During the operation, authorities discovered a brown packet parcel declared as ‘Produc:xsales good,’ shipped from Germany and consigned to an address in Caloocan City,” PDEA explained.
“A more thorough examination revealed one foil pouch containing a transparent plastic bag filled with approximately 503 pieces suspected of being ecstasy,” it added.
No suspects were immediately arrested during the operation, the agency said.
The drugs were turned over to the PDEA’s laboratory for testing while authorities investigate the shipper, the consignee and their local contacts. /gsg
