MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA) within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a “medium” chance of developing into a tropical cyclone, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Tuesday.
In its 5 a.m. forecast, Pagasa weather specialist Chenel Dominguez reported that the LPA was last located 290 kilometers west of Ambulong, Tanauan City, Batangas.
“It has a medium chance of becoming a full-blown typhoon. This means that the chance of it becoming a typhoon within the next 24 hours is low, but we are not ruling out the possibility of it becoming a typhoon in the next few days,” Dominguez explained.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, continues to affect Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Dominguez said the habagat is expected to bring scattered rains over Metro Manila, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), the Bicol Region, and Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan).
The rest of Luzon will experience generally fair to hot weather conditions, although there remains a high chance of rain showers, particularly in the afternoon and evening, due to localized thunderstorms.

The Western Visayas and Zamboanga Peninsula will continue to experience rain showers due to the habagat, Dominguez added.
As for the rest of the Visayas and Mindanao, generally fair conditions will prevail, although there remains a high chance of isolated rain showers, particularly in the afternoon and evening, due to localized thunderstorms./mcm
