Tondo folk quiet as 2 bodies turn up

The bullet-riddled bodies of a man and a woman were found together early morning on Tuesday in Tondo, Manila.

Senior Police Officer 2 Glenzor Vallejo of the Manila Police District (MPD) homicide section identified the slain man as Manap Sapak, 37, of Daguma, Bagumbayan in Sultan Kudarat province. He carried a passport in his pocket, the officer said.

The female victim remained unidentified. She was described to be between 40 and 45 years old, 4’1” in height, and wearing a black shirt and gray short pants.

Vallejo said the bodies were found at around 2 a.m. yesterday on Block 9 Extension of the Baseco Compound. They bore multiple bullet wounds in the head and body.

Recovered near the bodies were two empty shells from an M-14 automatic rifle, three empty shells from a 9 mm pistol, and one from a .45-cal. pistol.

“They (victims) may have been ordered to kneel before they were both shot in the head at close range and then repeatedly shot where they fell,” the investigator told the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

Vallejo noted the reluctance of residents in the area to give any statement to the police other than a confirmation that they heard gunshots before the bodies were discovered. The bodies were brought to the Cruz funeral parlor for autopsy and safekeeping. Jeannette I. Andrade
