Marcos wants Marawi City General Hospital open by August

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday said he wants the Marawi City General Hospital in Lanao del Sur opened by August.

In a brief statement after inspecting the 100-bed facility, Marcos said it must be operational within two months so it can begin serving the public.

“We are giving the contractors and all of the government agencies a deadline of August na mabuksan na ‘yung hospital para makapag-serbisyo na sa taumbayan (to open the hospital so that it can serve the people),” he told reporters.

Marcos also noted that the facility has a sufficient power supply, but a standby generator is still needed to ensure equipment continues to function during power outages.

Aside from the hospital, the President also inspected the Port of Marawi and the Temporary Learning Spaces in Barangay Sagonsongan.

These projects were part of the Marawi Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Peacebuilding Program led by the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Marawi Rehabilitation and Development, formerly known as Task Force Bangon Marawi.

It was an initiative to speed up recovery, reconstruction, and rehabilitation of Marawi City, which was ravaged by a five-month-long siege that displaced nearly 400,000 residents in May 2017. /das
