NLEx reports heavy traffic northbound toward Valenzuela

MANILA, Philippines — Heavy volume of traffic can be observed after Torres Bugallon Bridge going to Valenzuela northbound as of Sunday afternoon, according to the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) Corporation.

In a traffic update as of 4:15 p.m., the NLEx Corporation said that vehicles were running at approximately 10 to 20 kilometers per hour (kph) in these portions.

Meanwhile, the corporation added that approximately 30 to 40 kph running speed is seen after Balintawak Toll Plaza to Torres Bugallon Bridge Northbound and after Valenzuela to Marilao Northbound.

Light volume traffic is being experienced along the Balintawak toll plaza.

The leftmost and middle lanes (lanes 1 and 2) of the Marilao Bridge Northbound are closed for safety repair works from Sunday, 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

The Marilao Bridge sustained damage last Wednesday after an 18-wheel cargo truck struck its bottom part. One of the bridge’s beams fell onto a passing vehicle, which led to the death of one of its passengers.

The NLEx Corp. on Saturday suspended the toll collection on the northbound portion of the NLEx from Balintawak to Meycauayan City, Bulacan from June 22, 1 a.m. until midnight of June 23.

This came after the Department of Transportation ordered the suspension of toll collection on the affected segments of the expressway in the Marilao while the bridge undergoes repairs.

This is the second time this year that the overpass bridge, which has a vertical clearance of only 4.27 meters, was damaged which led to its repair for two weeks. /mr
