Suspect in murder of Quezon town ex-vice mayor slain in shootout

LUCENA CITY — A wanted felon who was one of the suspects in the killing of former Quezon town vice mayor in 2022 was killed on Friday, June 20, in a gun battle with the police in Tayabas City in Quezon province.

The Quezon police, in a belated report on Saturday, June 21, said that a team of operatives, armed with a warrant of arrest, swooped down around 5 a.m. on the house of a certain “Orlando,” 52, in Barangay (village) Malao-a.

The report stated that the suspect sensed the approaching law enforcers. But instead of surrendering, he fired at the policemen, but missed his targets.

The cops returned fire and hit Orlando who sustained several gunshot wounds.

The wounded suspect was taken to Tayabas Community Hospital but died along the way.

The police recovered the firearm from the suspect, a Norinco caliber .45 pistol still loaded with six bullets.

According to the report, Orlando is wanted for the killing of former Vice Mayor Danilo Amat of Dolores town on July 22, 2022, in San Pablo City, Laguna.

Amat, who served as vice mayor from 2019 to 2022, was repeatedly shot while driving his car in the city.

Murder charges had been filed against Amat’s three former bodyguards, one of them Orlando, who were identified through video footage from a closed-circuit television camera near the crime scene. /mr
