MANILA, Philippines — The government is “investing heavily” to make the Philippines one of the world’s safest countries, according to Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla.

The statement came from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Friday, a day after Remulla attended the Hotel Sales and Marketing Association Summit in Parañaque City.

The DILG chief noted that part of these efforts includes the revitalization of the 911 emergency call system, which he said will be fully operational in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao by July.

Remulla also said the government plans to install at least one closed-circuit television camera for every 1,000 square meters nationwide and to procure more vehicles for police officers to help meet the law enforcement agency’s five-minute response time target.
