MANILA, Philippines — Authorities arrested three individuals for allegedly selling unlicensed firearms in Parañaque City, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) announced on Friday.

According to the CIDG’s statement, the arrests resulted from an operation conducted last Wednesday at a mall in Barangay Tambo.

Police identified the suspects as a businessman known as “James,” an electrical engineer named “Johnel,” and a dentist named “Rolyn.”

“[They] were caught in the act of delivering and trading five unlicensed firearms, including three caliber 5.56 Bushmaster rifles, one caliber 9mm pistol and one caliber 22 pistol,” CIDG said.

“The suspects are allegedly involved in gunrunning and the illegal firearms trade operating within the National Capital Region,” it added.

The suspects were charged before the National Prosecution Service for allegedly violating Republic Act 10591 or the Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act./mcm
