BUENAVISTA, Agusan del Norte — Education Secretary Sonny Angara led the inauguration and opening of the Alternative Learning System (ALS) Community Learning Center in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte on Thursday.
This facility is considered the first ALS Community Learning Center in Mindanao.
It is a two-story building with a roof deck, situated inside the Central Elementary School in Buenavista.
The center was constructed in 2024 through a Department of Education (DepEd) funding worth P16.5 million.
It will serve as a vital resource hub for ALS learners and the wider community in Agusan del Norte.
As of May 28, the center is equipped with 12 laptops, a 42-inch television, a printer, and comprehensive ALS learning materials and resources.
“I deliver a message of hope from our President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. He is very sincere in his hope to have an educational system that is inclusive, comprehensive, and of very good quality,” Angara said.
He also recognized the dedication of the DepEd in the Caraga Region, led by Regional Director Maria Ines Asuncion, in serving the learners across every school in the region.
Angara earlier visited the Datu Saldong Domino Elementary School in Barangay Tagpange, Buenavista, which is considered one of the last-mile schools in the region.
Together with Department of Information and Communications Technology officials, Angara spearheaded the installation of connectivity and the electrification of the school.
Agusan del Norte Governor Maria Angelica Rosedell Amante and lone district Rep. Dale Corvera accompanied Angara during the school activities. /apl
