P16.32-M drugs seized from Pasay mail hub

MANILA, Philippines — Illegal drugs valued at a total of P16.32-million were confiscated by authorities, the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP DEG) announced.
The drugs were intercepted at the Central Mail Exchange Center in Pasay City on Thursday afternoon, PNP DEG detailed in a statement.
Authorities seized 3,025 grams of suspected ketamine valued at P15.12 million and 858 grams of marijuana worth P1.20 million, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said in a separate statement on Friday.
“One parcel from the United States contained 240 grams of marijuana or ‘kush,’ another from Thailand with 618 grams of kush, both concealed in boxes. While the parcel from Poland hid five plastic bags of Ketamine inside a coffee maker,” the BOC added.
The bureau explained that the parcels had been declared abandoned and were subjected to x-ray scanning and physical inspection after remaining unclaimed for 30 days.

Meanwhile, authorities are tracing the sender and receiver of the packages to possibly file charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Dangerous Drugs Act, the BOC added./das/mcm
