Thunderstorms, rain showers expected in Metro Manila, 6 Luzon provinces

MANILA, Philippines — Thunderstorms are forecast to affect Metro Manila and six provinces in Luzon on Thursday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

In its 2:06 p.m. thunderstorm advisory, moderate to heavy rain showers with lightning and strong winds are expected to affect the following areas within the next two hours:

  • Metro Manila
  • Tarlac 
  • Zambales
  • Rizal
  • Cavite
  • Batangas
  • Laguna

The weather bureau added that the following areas are experiencing similar conditions, which may persist within two hours and affect nearby areas:

  • Bulacan (San Miguel, Plaridel, Pandi, Santa Maria)
  • Pampanga (Candaba)
  • Nueva Ecija (Cabiao) 
  • Quezon (Padre Burgos, Pagbilao) 

With this, the Pagasa advised residents in the said areas “to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards which include flash floods and landslides.”

Based on Pagasa’s 5 a.m. bulletin, the easterlies—or the warm wind from the Pacific Ocean—and the intertropical convergence zone—where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres meet—are currently affecting the country.
