Classes in Santa Cruz, Laguna suspended due to ‘bomb threat’

MANILA, Philippines — Santa Cruz, Laguna Mayor Edgar San Luis announced on Wednesday morning that classes at all levels in public and private schools in the town are suspended due to an alleged bomb threat.
“Today, a message is circulating on social media regarding an alleged bomb threat to our town,” San Luis said on his Facebook post.
Aside from the class suspensions, San Luis said the operation of their local government was also temporarily halted while authorities investigate the matter.

“We encourage everyone to avoid believing in unofficial pieces of information,” San Luis asked his townmates.
“In this situation, false information can cause fear, chaos and danger,” he pointed out.
“A reminder to those who are disseminating this kind of message: There is a law in place against the spread of fear and disinformation,” he warned.
San Luis emphasized, “This is not a joke. In times like these, concern and caution are much needed.”
The local leader advised his constituents to remain “calm, alert and vigilant” and to “report any suspicious activity in your vicinity to the authorities immediately.”
Bomb threats are punishable by law under Presidential Decree No. 1727, also known as the Anti-Bomb Joke Law. /apl
