MANILA, Philippines — Rain is expected to persist in parts of Luzon on Tuesday due to the low-pressure area (LPA) within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In its 5 a.m. update, Pagasa Weather Specialist Obet Badrina said the LPA inside the PAR was last spotted over the coastal waters of Corcuera, Romblon.
“Right now, there is a small chance that this will become a tropical cyclone,” he said.
“But we can see that it still has cloud formations that will bring overcast skies with light rains, accompanied by lightning and thunder, over much of Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), as well as the Bicol Region and parts of Central Luzon,” he added.

According to Badrina, if the LPA does not dissipate by Tuesday morning, it is expected to move west-northwestward across the country. With this, cloudy skies with a high chance of rain from noon until evening are likely in parts of Bataan, Zambales, Pampanga, Bulacan, and Metro Manila.
Meanwhile, the easterlies, or winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, are forecast to bring a high chance of rain in parts of Aurora, Quirino, and Isabela.
As for the Visayas and Mindanao, Badrina said most areas in the regions may experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.
Badrina said the intertropical convergence zone—where winds from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres meet—is currently located offshore of Mindanao and “does not directly affect the country.”/mcm
