MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) will utilize the high-resolution CCTV cameras of the Manila Development Authority (MMDA) for rapid response operations of law enforcers.

PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III on Monday said the PNP will use the CCTV cameras used by the MMDA under its No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP).

“As part of our commitment, if they see any crimes through CCTV and need police assistance, there’s no need to call 911 because we will assign a police officer here with a radio directly connected to our command center so that dispatch will be immediate,” said Torre in an MMDA press conference.

“So the response will be much faster,” he explained.

Torre himself demonstrated how quick the PNP’s response is through the NCAP CCTVs during the press conference.

He asked the media to pick a location in Quezon City monitored by the MMDA.

After a location was selected and displayed live on the screens at the MMDA headquarters in Pasig City, Torre instructed a police officer to proceed to the area.

A police officer quickly arrived at the scene in under three minutes, demonstrating that a rapid response is possible for the PNP.

The police organization is currently pilot-testing an emergency response time of five minutes in select areas of Metro Manila, including Quezon City.

Torre said this five-minute response time will be reduced to three minutes within the next three months. /apl
