MANILA, Philippines — Overcast skies and scattered rain showers will prevail in Mindanao and Eastern Visayas, while the rest of the country will have fair weather on Sunday, according to the state weather bureau.
In its morning forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, had slightly weakened.

With this, the state weather service said that two weather systems currently affect the country: the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and the easterlies.
“ITCZ continues to affect Mindanao and the eastern part of Visayas,” weather specialist Obet Badrina said in Filipino.
“Today we are expecting cloudy skies and big chances of rain, lightning, and thunder in Mindanao and Eastern Visayas,” he added.
On the other hand, easterlies will bring fair weather over the rest of the country with chances of thunderstorms from afternoon to evening.
The latest data from Pagasa showed that no low-pressure area or weather disturbance was monitored inside and outside the country’s boundary.
Badrina also reported that there is a small chance that a tropical cyclone will form inside the Philippine area of Responsibility in the next few days.
Meanwhile, no gale warning was raised in any of the country’s seaboards.
