MANILA, Philippines — A 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck a town in Cagayan Valley on Saturday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

It was earlier reported as a magnitude 5.0 earthquake.

In its latest bulletin, the state seismology department said the tremor, which was tectonic in origin, occurred at 5:27 p.m.

Its epicenter was located 15 kilometers southwest of Dalupiri Island in Calayan, Cagayan, with a depth of 3 kilometers.

Phivolcs’ instrument recorded Intensity I in Claveria, Cagayan.

No aftershocks and damage to properties are expected from the tremor.
