MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA 6b) off Batanes province has become a tropical depression, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Thursday night.
The tropical cyclone was given the local name Auring by the weather agency.
Auring was last spotted 270 kilometers north of Itbayat town, Batanes with a wind speed of 45 km per hour and a gustiness of 55 kph as of 10 p.m. on June 12, Pagasa detailed in a bulletin.
The tropical depression was seen moving north-northwest at 15 kph.

This development prompted Pagasa to begin issuing tropical cyclone bulletins starting 11 p.m. on Thursday. /das
