David chosen as week’s best

NOTHING beats hard work, most especially when the chips are down.

Gary David stressed that anew by coming up with back-to-back big games to help snap Powerade out of its rut in the PBA Governors Cup and earn for himself the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week honors for the period of May 28 to June 3.

In the Tigers’ wins over Alaska and heavy favorite Talk ‘N Text, David averaged 29.5 points on top of 3.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists to emerge as the scribes’ unanimous choice.

For Powerade coach Bo Perasol, those figures are products of the efforts his prized player puts in both before and after games.

“Whatever performance Gary does on court is a direct result of the hard work  he spends in practice ,” said Perasol.

The Philippine Cup Best Player does not want to hog all the credit, specifically pointing out new import Omar Sneed, who came in at a time Powerade needed to arrest a 0-2 (win-loss) start in the season-ending tourney.

Sneed has indeed been proving himself to be what exactly the doctor ordered for Powerade, averaging 22.5 points, 16.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 2.0 steals in the two games he has played.

Still, it is undeniable that David remains the Tigers’ main man and he has some very concrete proofs of late to show.

David’s 28-point peformance in a 110-105 conquest of Philippine Cup finals tormentor TNT last Sunday was laced by three straight triples that lifted Powerade from a 51-57 deficit and into the lead for good. /PBA media bureau
