MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded over 400 weak earthquakes near the boundary of Isabela, Ifugao and Mountain Province since June 1.
In a brief statement on Wednesday, Phivolcs reported that an ‘earthquake swarm’ began in the area at around 10 p.m. on Sunday.
An earthquake swarm is a series of weak and consecutive tremors in one place due to the movement of an active fault.
The Phivolcs recorded 416 earthquakes during the span of four days from June 1 to 4.
Of this figure, 135 are plotted earthquakes with magnitudes of 1.2 to 3.6 and depths ranging from 2 to 38 kilometers.
