MANILA, Philippines — All necessary assistance and support would be given to an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who had miscarriage aboard a Jeju Air flight from the Philippines to Incheon according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

In a statement on Tuesday, DMW said it confirmed the incident with the Philippine Embassy in Seoul, saying that the reported newborn’s death was an “in-flight miscarriage on Jeju Air.”

“The OFW was travelling with her husband, mother in law, and daughter from Clark International Airport and had a layover at Incheon Airport as transiting passengers bound for Saipan,” said the DMW.

“A 911 rescue team brought the said OFW to INHA University Hospital in Incheon, but unfortunately, the baby was declared dead on arrival,” it added.

According to DMW, its Migrant Workers’ Office in Seoul had reached out to the OFW, who is now “in good physical condition.”

Assistance to be given to the OFW includes aid for hospital bills and other medical support she needs.

The DMW said it would likewise “assist the family in the autopsy of the baby”—as required by the Incheon police—as well as the immediate repatriation of the remains of the baby. /cb
