Binay sorties in W. Visayas set

MANILA, Philippines–Vice President Jejomar Binay will be in “Mar Roxas country,” or Western Visayas, this week to meet with local officials and swear in new members of the Partido Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban  from the region.

The Office of the Vice President on Monday said Binay’s three-day sortie “will start in Roxas City on June 6,” a day after his arrival from the United States where he attended the 5th Global Housing Finance Forum in Washington, D.C.

“United Nationalist Alliance senatorial bets Mitos Magsaysay and Joey de Venecia as well as UNA spokesperson JV Bautista and former Rep. Rodolfo Plaza of PDP-Laban will accompany the Vice President,” said the OVP.

UNA groups together the PDP-Laban chaired by Binay and the Puwersa ng Masang Pilipino led by former President Joseph Estrada.

In Roxas City, Binay will lead the oath-taking of the new PDP-Laban members from the Western Visayas provinces of Capiz, Iloilo, Aklan and Antique.

Roxas is the hometown of Transportation and Communications Secretary Mar Roxas, running mate of President Aquino in 2010 who lost to Binay. Roxas has a pending protest case against Binay in the Supreme Court over the election.

Also on June 6, the Vice President will head OVP medical and dental missions in the Capiz towns of Dao, Dumarao and Mambusao.

On June 7 and 8, similar missions will be held in the towns of Nabas, Banga and Numancia in Aklan and Valderrama, Bugasong and Hamtic in Antique.

Binay will also grace the inauguration of senior citizens buildings in Dao and Banga.

In April, Binay welcomed new PDP-Laban members from the island-province of Guimaras, who included incumbent officials, mostly former members of Lakas-Kampi-CMD.

Among the new party members were Guimaras Gov. Felipe Nava and Vice Gov. Aurelio Tionado, six board members, a town mayor, three vice mayors and 23 town councilors.
