15 areas to reach ‘danger’ level heat index – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — Fifteen areas across the country are forecast to sizzle at a “danger” level heat index on Thursday, May 29, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The heat index measures the level of discomfort an average person experiences due to the effects of temperature and air humidity.

Areas with heat indices of 42°C up to 51°C fall within the “danger” level category, as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke are possible.

Pagasa reported that Masbate City, Masbate, is expected to hit the highest heat index for the day at 44°C.

Aside from Masbate, dangerous heat indices are also forecast in the following areas:

43°C

42°C

Meanwhile, the two monitoring areas in Metro Manila are forecast to record an “extreme caution” level heat index, with NAIA, Pasay City, at 39°C and Science Garden, Quezon City, at 37°C.

Pagasa said heat indices from 33°C to 41°C are under the “extreme danger” category, as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke are also possible upon continued exposure to the sun. /das/abc
