DZIQ: Do good deeds and repent this Holy Week—Archbishop Cruz

MANILA, Philippines — Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Cruz urged on Monday the public to do good deeds and repent this Holy Week instead of joining activities where they may be hurt.

In a Radyo Inquirer interview, Cruz said that people should refrain from taking part in activities wherein they hurt themselves with whips or volunteer to be crucified.

“Ginawa na ni Kristo ‘yan para sa atin [Christ has already done those for us],” Cruz said.

He said that what the church wanted people to do during holy week was repent on sins and do good deeds for others.

The Holy Week, according to Cruz, was not supposed to be used for vacation and merrymaking.

“Sana pagsamahin na nila ang pagsisisi at paggawa ng mabuti doon [I hope they can repent and do good deeds there],” he told those who would be going on vacation during the Holy Week.

He told the public to seek out churches or chapels if they decide to use the Holy Week to go on vacation.

For the full interview, listen to Radyo Inquirer, DZIQ 990 AM.
