MANILA, Philippines — Thirty monitoring stations across the country are expected to log “dangerous” heat index levels on Friday, based on the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) latest forecast.

A quick look at the state weather bureau’s data would show that the country’s highest heat index on May 23 is forecast in Aparri, Cagayan, at 46°C.

This level of heat index falls in the so-called “danger” threshold, as it may cause “heat cramps, heat exhaustion,” and even “heat stroke with continued exposure.”

For Metro Manila, Pagasa’s monitoring station in Pasay is seen to log a heat index of 42°C.

Although not in the “danger” threshold, the state weather bureau has categorized Science Garden, Quezon City’s heat index, under the “extreme caution” category as it is expected to record a heat index of 40°C.
