Napolcom: ‘No politics’ in probing cops moonlighting for Paolo Duterte

MANILA, Philippines — “No politics will be involved” in the investigation into two police officers allegedly moonlighting as bodyguards for Davao City 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte, National Police Commission (Napolcom) Vice Chairperson Rafael Calinisan said Friday.

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil previously said the cops may face administrative cases against them, even dismissal, for dishonesty.

“[T]here will definitely be no politics involved in any part of the investigation,” Calinisan said in a press conference at the Interior Department office in Quezon City.

“We’re not singling out anyone. Our instruction to all our people: the PNP, the National Police Commission should remain apolitical. We must not play with politics because we are not politicians,” he added.

The two police officers were identified alongside two Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel in a video circulating online showing Duterte in an altercation in a Davao City establishment.

A Davao City Police Office memorandum said the two officers were subjected to a pre-charge investigation facing an administrative offense of grave irregularities in the performance of duty./mcm
