MANILA, Philippines – A man’s “high goals” caused a blackout in a Quezon City neighborhood after he climbed but fell from an electric pole before dawn Sunday.

Peter Rosas lost his footing while scaling the pole and came tumbling down from it.

Before hitting the ground, he snapped an electric wire, plunging  into darkness Barangay (village) Gulod, Novaliches, for more than an hour.

Duty nurses at the East Avenue Medical Center’s (EAMC) emergency room said the victim was brought at the Hospital around 3 a.m. Sunday with burns on his body.

Barangay Gulod watchman Jose Luis Levy said Rosas fell from an electric post at the corner of Quirino Highway and Villareal St. around 2:30 am.

The victim was not a resident of the barangay, Levy said.

Rosas caught the attention of bystanders and residents when he climbed up an electric pole in the area.

The victim was asked to go down and was warned that he might lose his footing and fall from his high perch.

Ignoring the warnings, Rosas climbed further but slipped and fell, pulling with him an electric wire that caused a power outage until 4 am.

Barangay officials quickly rushed him to the EAMC where he is still confined.
