‘Danger’ level heat index forecast in 32 areas on May 6

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 32 areas, including Metro Manila, are expected to experience a “danger” level peak heat index on Tuesday, the state weather bureau said.
Heat index, as defined by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), is the “measure of the contribution that high humidity makes with abnormally high temperatures in reducing the body’s ability to cool itself.”

Based on Pagasa’s latest forecast, the highest heat index at 45ºC is forecast to be experienced in Isabel State University in Echague, Isabela
Heat indices ranging from 42ºC to 51ºC are in the “danger category” due to increased risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
