Cebu and the rest of the Visayas will face more rainy days ahead with the start of the rainy season and Friday’s entry of Tropical Storm “Ambo.”
The storm gained strength as it moved along the eastern coast of Northern Luzon.
By Tuesday afternoon, it will be 780 km north of Batanes, according to the state weather bureau Pagasa.
Pagasa said Ambo may intensify before it exits to Japan.
Tropical Storm “Ambo” is expected to reinforce the southwest monsoon that will bring rains over Central and Southern Luzon and Visayas.
Fishing boats and small seacrafts were advised not to go out to sea in Southern Luzon and Visayas because of this combined effect.
The Batanes and Kalayaan Group of Islands were placed under signal number 2. Signal number 1 covers Northern Aurora, Isabela and Cagayan provinces.
Mactan weather specialist Boy Artiaga said Cebu will experience cloudy skies and rough seas. He warned people living near the rivers to be careful.
“We are trying our best to prepare for it,” said Alvin Santillana, chief of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
Meanwhile the 24 passengers of the MB Salmin vessel that got stalled due to a storm in the sea off Lawis Ledge, Talisay City, last Friday afternoon returned home safely yesterday, the Cebu Coast Guard said,
Cebu Coast Guard Commander Rolando Punzalan, Jr. said they urged the owner of the Bohol-bound MB Salmin to file a marine protest before their office and Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) to identify the cause of the incident.
The motorbanca operated by Roger delos Santos of Cabui-an, Bohol was notr egistered with Marina.
