‘Dangerous’ heat index forecast in Pasay, QC, 17 other areas

MANILA, Philippines — “Dangerous” heat index levels were forecast in Pasay City and Quezon City in Metro Manila as well as 17 other areas across the country on Saturday, May 3.

This was according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) latest heat index bulletin.

Pagasa’s monitoring station at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City was projected to experience a heat index of 43°C, while its station at the Science Garden in Quezon City was forecast to experience 42°C.

The “dangerous” heat index level is between 42 and 51°C, which may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The highest heat index level predicted for Saturday was 44°C at Baler, Aurora; Iba, Zambales; Sangley Point, Cavite; and Infanta, Quezon.

Pagasa said the rest of the areas that will experience the “danger” heat index category are:

Meanwhile, the agency’s station in La Trinidad, Benguet is forecast to feel a heat index of only 24°C, which is “not hazardous.”
