MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau’s monitoring stations in Cavite City and Tanauan, Batangas, are seen to log the country’s highest heat index on Labor Day, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
In a public forecast on Thursday, Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja said these areas are expected to record a dangerous heat index of 45°C.
“The highest heat index is possible in Cavite City and Tanauan City in Batangas — up to 45°, followed by Pasay, [where] the heat we will feel will be even higher at noon, [where] it is possible to reach up to 44°C. Meanwhile, the heat index will remain at 39°C over the northern portion of Metro Manila,” Estareja said in Filipino.
“We can see here on our map that the orange color or dangerous levels of heat indices, are highly likely in a large part of Luzon, we’re talking about Palawan, in Mindoro, areas of Camarines Sur, Masbate, here in Cagayan, Isabela, La Union, Pangasinan, and in many other places in the plains in Central Luzon and Calabarzon and Metro Manila — there are still places where the heat will still be intense,” he added.
With this, he urged the public to remain hydrated, adding that if they are set to leave their home, it would be better to bring sun protection such as an umbrella and wear “loose and cool clothes.”
