THE defending champions Manila Sharks hope to clinch the top spot heading to the playoffs of the Baseball Philippine Series 8 even as the Cebu Dolphins try to play spoilers today in two games that will be played at two separate venues.

The Sharks posted an 8-4 lead over the Tigers when their match was rained out with the former knocking down rivals in the succeeding games to emerge the top team with an 8-1 (win-loss) mark.

Cebu, on the other hand, faces Dumaguete at the Clark Field Parade Grounds in Pampanga at 9 a.m. in an out-of-town game. The Dolphins are in second with a 7-2 slate.

A Cebu win coupled with a Manila loss will give the Dolphins the No. 1 in the semifinals via a superior batting average. The third and fourth spots are being disputed by Batangas (5-5) and Taguig (4-5).

Taguig clashes with Dumaguete in the first game of the Fil-American Friendship Day All-Star festivities at the Alabang Country Club tomorrow with a Patriots win moving them past Batangas for the third spot via the runs-allowed tiebreak.  Correspondent Jonas Panerio
