Journalist killed at home in Kalibo

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A veteran journalist who served as the former mayor of Kalibo town in Aklan was shot dead by still unknown assailants in his residence in Barangay Andagao on Tuesday evening, April 29.

Juan “Johnny“ Dayang was declared dead on arrival when rushed to the hospital, according to Capt. Aubrey Ayon, public information officer of the Aklan Police Provincial Office.

The victim suffered two gunshot wounds to his back.

Based on the initial investigation, Dayang was inside his house when the assailants shot him at around 8:30 p.m.

Residents near his home heard two to three bursts of gunfire and later learned that Dayang was shot.

Police are conducting a manhunt operation to arrest the perpetrators.

The motive behind the attack is still being determined.
