MANILA, Philippines — If you file for leave on Friday, you can enjoy another long weekend, as Labor Day (May 1) falls on a Thursday.
Under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Proclamation No. 727, May 1 was declared a regular holiday to celebrate Labor Day, marking the annual observance of workers’ contributions to the country.
It is a day often used to recognize the importance of labor rights and policies aimed at improving Filipinos’ working conditions.
Because of this, Labor Day celebrations typically include protests and events organized by labor unions and workers’ groups, addressing issues such as job security, fair wages, and just treatment.
Meanwhile, the government and the private sector scheduled job fairs to mark the holiday.
