Low-pressure area spotted east of Mindanao — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) was spotted east of Mindanao on Tuesday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

According to Pagasa weather specialist Chenel Dominguez, the LPA was spotted 695 kilometers east of Mindanao as of 3 a.m.

“Sa ngayon nananatiling mababa ang tiyansa na maging isang ganap na bagyo within the next 24 hours, pero hindi natin inaalis ang tiyansa na ito,” said Dominguez in Pagasa’s latest weather forecast.

(Right now, the chance of becoming a complete typhoon within the next 24 hours remains low, but we are not ruling out this possibility.)

“Pero regardless, inaasahang magdadala ito ng mga kalat-kalat na pagulan lalo na dito sa Mindanao, Visayas, at possible Bicol Region sa mga susunod na araw,” she added.

(But regardless, it is expected to bring scattered rains, especially here in Mindanao, Visayas, and possibly the Bicol Region in the next few days.)

Meanwhile, the LPA’s trough, which is embedded within the intertropical convergence zone or ITCZ, is expected to bring rain over the entire Mindanao and Palawan.

Luzon and Visayas, on the other hand, will have clear weather with hot and humid temperatures, but with chances of rain in the afternoon and evening due to localized thunderstorms.

Pagasa said the temperature range in key cities/areas across the country for Tuesday will be:

Metro Manila: 24 to 34 degrees Celsius

Baguio City: 17 to 26 degrees Celsius

Laoag City: 25 to 33 degrees Celsius

Tuguegarao: 25 to 37 degrees Celsius

Legazpi City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius

Puerto Princesa City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius

Tagaytay: 22 to 32 degrees Celsius

Kalayaan Islands: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius

Iloilo City: 26 to 33 degrees Celsius

Cebu: 28 to 32 degrees Celsius

Tacloban City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius

Cagayan De Oro City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius

Zamboanga City: 25 to 32 degrees Celsius

Davao City: 25 to 33 degrees Celsius
