Traffic cop injured after being hit by speeding van in Pampanga
MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga — A policeman was injured after being struck early Saturday, April 26, by a speeding utility van while manning traffic along a national road in Santo Tomas, Pampanga.
The Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) said in a statement Sunday that the incident occurred at San Matias village around 5 a.m.
“The officer was actively directing traffic and signaling vehicles to slow down when a white Mitsubishi L300, driven by a 49-year-old male resident of Sto. Tomas failed to slow down and struck the officer,” it said.
Authorities did not release the names of the injured policeman or the driver.
The policeman was rushed to the nearest hospital and is now in stable condition, the report said. The driver was arrested, and his vehicle was impounded.
Police said the driver may face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in injury, reckless driving, disobeying traffic regulations, and other related offenses.
“The PRO3 continues to urge the public to cooperate with traffic enforcers and law enforcement officers, whose presence on the roads is vital in maintaining safety and order in our communities,” the statement added.
