MANILA, Philippines — In line with the celebration of Solo Parents’ Week, the Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) will provide free rides to solo parents on Saturday, April 26.
“We will implement FREE RIDES during peak hours of operations of the lines, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., and 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on the same day,” said the MRT-3 advisory.
MRT-3 advised solo parents to show their solo parents I.D to the station personnel to avail the free ride.
The Republic Act No. 11861 or the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act mandates that the third week and third Saturday of April of every year are declared as Solo Parents Week and National Parents Day, respectively.
The law states that this is “to commemorate the role and significance of every solo parent in the Philippines.”

In a separate statement, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said that the agency and the Inter-Agency Coordinating and Monitoring Committee will hold a one-stop-shop caravan on Saturday at the Mandaluyong College of Science and Technology.
The caravan aims to provide opportunities for solo parents to apply for or renew their Solo Parent Identification Card.
