MANILA, Philippines — Alert Level 3 remains raised over Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island after 10 volcanic earthquakes were recorded within its vicinity in the past day.
This report comes from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Thursday.
According to its bulletin, the earthquakes were recorded from 12 midnight of April 23 to 12 midnight of April 24.

During the same period, the volcano emitted more than 2,7000 tons of sulfur dioxide, with plumes reaching a height of 150 meters.
Ground deformation has also been observed, with the volcano’s edifice still inflated.
Due to this, Kanlaon is still on Alert Level 3.
This means remains communities within its 6-kilometer radius of the summit crater must still be evacuated.
The situation is brought about by the danger of potential pyroclastic density currents (PDC), ballistic projectiles, rockfalls, ashfall and other related hazards.
Both local government units and residents must also exercise increased vigilance during intense rains.
Loose ash or pyroclastic materials that have been deposited in the upper slopes of the volcano can lead to lahars and sediment-laden streamflows.
Pilots must also avoid flying any aircraft close to the volcano’s summit.
Kanlaon Volcano last erupted on April 8, producing a voluminous, bent plume approximately 4,000 meters tall.
