MANILA, Philippines — Twenty-eight areas are forecast to hit “danger” level peak heat indices on Thursday, said the state weather bureau.
Heat index refers to the “measure of the contribution that high humidity makes with abnormally high temperatures in reducing the body’s ability to cool itself.”

Based on the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) latest computed heat index forecast, the highest heat index on Thursday is forecast to be experienced in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan at 45ºC.
Meanwhile, 27 areas, including Metro Manila, are expected to hit heat indices above 42ºC.
Pagasa automatically tags indices ranging from 42ºC to 51ºC as “danger category” due to increased risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion and even heat stroke.
