MANILA, Philippines — The owners of over 1,100 vehicles will receive show cause orders from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for failing its roadworthiness inspection, according to LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II.
Mendoza did not mention the number of these drivers but disclosed that 1,165 vehicles failed the inspection.
“We already inspected vehicles for roadworthiness check, and 1,165 failed the check,” he said in a press conference on Wednesday.
“We would issue show cause orders to the motor vehicle owners [asking them] to explain why their certification or registration should not be canceled,” the LTO chief added.

Mendoza also revealed that 671 drivers were suspended due to various reasons — 574 drivers were suspended because of “road crash incidents resulting in slight physical injuries or death,” while 97 tested positive for drugs.
To lessen road accidents, Department of Transportation chief Vince Dizon announced the creation of a special task force that will be tasked to review road safety policies and procedures in hopes of implementing reforms.
For drug and alcoholism issues among some drivers, Mendoza disclosed that the LTO plans to form a team dedicated to addressing the matter.
