Magnitude 6.3 quake hits waters off Davao Occidental, says Phivolcs

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 6.3 earthquake rocked the waters off Davao Occidental on Tuesday evening, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
According to the agency’s bulletin, the quake occurred at 6:17 p.m. roughly 295 kilometers southeast of Sarangani Island in Sarangani town, Davao Occidental.

Phivolcs said damage and aftershocks were expected.

Intensity III (Weak)
- Malungon, Sarangi
- City of General Santos
Intensity II (Slightly Felt)
- Tupi and City of Koronadal, South Cotabato
- Kiamba, Sarangani
Intensity I (Scarcely Perceptible)
- Maitum and Malapatan, Sarangani
- Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat
Meanwhile, the following areas had the respective instrumental intensities:
Intensity III (Weak)
- Malungon, Sarangani
Intensity II (Slightly Felt)
- Kiamba, Sarangani
- City of General Santos
- Tupi and City of Koronadal, South Cotabato
- Nabunturan, Davao de Oro
Intensity I (Scarcely Perceptible)
- Maasim and Alabel, Sarangani
- City of Kidapawan, Cotabato
- Santo Niño, Banga, T’Boli, Lake Sebu and Surallah, South Cotabato
- City of Davao
- Magsaysay and Matanao, Davao del Sur
- Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental
- Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat
Phivolcs further detailed that the earthquake had a depth of focus of 117 kilometers and was tectonic in nature.
